Founded in 1906 and based in the Nivernais region, Tonnellerie Berthomieu Ermitage has been part of the Charlois Group since 2006 – the only cooperage group to oversee a fully integrated production process, from oak selection to barrel making. The finest oaks, over 150 years old and sourced from sustainably managed French forests certified by PEFC, are carefully chosen by the group’s buyers. Specializing in custom-made barrels, the Ermitage workshop pays meticulous attention to every stage – from stave selection to toasting – to highlight the unique character of each cask. Thanks to its exclusive steam pre-toasting method, the cooperage ensures supple tannins and perfect harmony between wine and oak, offering wines an élevage of great finesse and complexity.
