Adapting sustainability and strategy: the case of Champagne

Abstract 🍇 Nicolas BEFORT is associate professor of economics at Neoma Business School and heads the bioeconomy and sustainable development chair. 🥂 He is conducting a study on the transformation of Champagne and the transition issues for winegrowers and champagne houses. 🎨 He presents two approaches to building a sustainability strategy: a rationalised approach based on local indicators and a holistic approach based on informal networks. 🔍 It highlights the need to produce standardised tools to facilitate the identification of relevant solutions. 🌱 It highlights the importance of open forms of experimentation and the multiplication of players to encourage innovation and the appropriation of new practices. 🏢 It emphasises the role of organisations in structuring and disseminating knowledge and practices. 🌍 It stresses the need for clear regulatory policies to accompany the disappearance of unsustainable practices and facilitate access to new technologies.
