Franck Mazy: wine advice without borders

Published on April 4, 2025 by Faustine Milard

A discreet but key figure in the Champagne region, Franck Mazy is the embodiment of a new generation of wine entrepreneurs: rooted in their region, attentive to changes in their sector, and with an international outlook. At the head of VITICONCEPT and the Club des Entrepreneurs Champenois, he combines local commitment with a global vision.

Entrepreneurial DNA: controlled growth

For the Mazys, entrepreneurship is not a coincidence, it's almost a tradition. It's something that's been handed down from generation to generation, with the conviction that we build our future through hard work, perseverance and a certain sense of community.

When Franck Mazy bought VITICONCEPT in 2009, the wine consultancy already had two employees. But under his impetus, it changed scale. "From 2009 to 2025, I went from 2 employees to 14, and I multiplied its turnover by 6 or 7," he confides. This ambition is reflected in constant development and considerable expansion.

In this fast-changing sector, Franck Mazy has developed a solid position: "We currently advise almost 270 estates, and I'm only talking about Champagne here, but 95% of the wine trade are our customers. We work with 13 wine cooperatives and our advice is passed on to almost 5,500 hectares.

The Chairman's mission: bringing people together to move forward

Franck Mazy is not content to succeed on his own. President of the Champenois Entrepreneurs' Club since October 2024, he is a federator, a conveyor of ideas and dynamics.

At the head of the Club des Entrepreneurs Champenois, which has 220 members representing a total of €1.5 billion in sales, he intends to continue and strengthen existing initiatives: "You don't change a winning team, the aim is to continue what's being done at the moment, i.e. job dating, the Viti Vini trade show and meetings". But he also wants to go further, and is looking at how the club could go even further in supporting its member companies.

From Champagne to the world: a consultant without borders

Despite his deep roots in the Champagne region, Franck Mazy understood very early on the importance of international expansion. Since 2006, he has been crossing borders with a clear objective: to enrich his own expertise while promoting Champagne know-how abroad. This approach was part of a genuine quest for knowledge and exchange in a more connected, more open world of winegrowing.

In the space of fifteen years, its expertise has been deployed in a number of European countries - Belgium, the UK, Italy, Romania, Austria - and as far afield as Moldavia, where it was even referenced by the Ministry of Agriculture. This international development has been built up methodically, mainly through professional networks and word-of-mouth, in particular via two key professions: nurserymen and consultant oenologists, who have acted as invaluable advisors.

This international ambition has not always been understood in Champagne circles. Yet Franck Mazy remains convinced that this openness is good for everyone. His dearest dream would be to organise a trade show for Champagne companies abroad, to raise the profile of the region's expertise beyond its borders. For him, this international dynamic is an opportunity to observe other methods, anticipate trends and import innovations likely to enrich local practices.

A dual vision that makes all the difference

Franck Mazy represents this new generation of wine entrepreneurs who manage to combine local expertise and international vision. This dual vision is his distinctive strength in a sector that is often torn between tradition and innovation. On the one hand, he runs a company deeply rooted in the Champagne terroir, advising the biggest names in the wine trade and hundreds of estates. On the other, he travels around Europe to share his expertise, while remaining on the lookout for new practices and perspectives.

This balance is also reflected in his role as Chairman of the Club des Entrepreneurs Champenois, where he works to strengthen links between local economic players while seeking to provide them with more in-depth support. "We have to learn from everywhere", he says with conviction, simply summing up his professional philosophy.

His ability to promote local know-how through his consultancy business, while recognising the value of practices from elsewhere, makes him an accomplished entrepreneur serving an industry that is constantly evolving.
